Abstract

[EN] Understanding the growth and interaction among fault segments in earthquake-prone regions is crucial for accurate seismic hazard assessment. In regions of low deformation, such as the Alboran Sea, analyzing the cumulative displacement on fault scarps over time provides key insights into the system's growth. This study aims to characterize the morphotectonic features resulting from the Plio-Quaternary activity of the North-South faults. For this purpose, was employed high-resolution bathymetric data with an autonomous underwater vehicle and advanced relief visualization techniques have been used for their analysis. These tools have facilitated the identification of a set of rectilinear fault scarps forming horst and graben systems, as well as three types of pockmarks. A comprehensive quantitative morphometric analysis has been carried out using bathymetric profiles along each fault trace. This has allowed quantifying the vertical cumulative seafloor surface displacement along fault traces, crucial for discussing the deformation and growth of the whole system. Results indicate high segmentation and complex distribution of cumulative displacements, leading to multi-fault seismic rupture configurations. The findings suggest that this is a transtensional system in an early stage of growth and may contribute to an understand better the dynamics and hazards of these complex fault systems
