The authors offer an assessment of two action research and participatory science projects carried out with the overall aim of safeguarding coastal archaeological heritage, threatened both by the effects of climate change and by the various forms of anthropogenic pressure on coastal areas. Initiated in 2006, the "ALeRT" (Archéologie, Littoral et Réchauffement Terrestre - Archaeology, Coasts and Global Warming) project https://alert-archeo.org/ focuses more specifically on the Atlantic coastline of mainland France. Since 2018, the ALOA (Archéologie Littorale Outre Atlantique) https://aloa.blog/ project has focused on the Guadeloupe archipelago in the French West Indies. In both contexts, the aim was to draw up a ¿sanitary¿ inventory of their coastal cultural heritage, and to involve institutional players, land and heritage managers and the public (nonprofit associations, schools, etc.) in a participative approach leading to the search for scientific knowledge and solutions of management.
