Abstract

[EN] We present a study of the fortifications which during the War of Restauração Portuguesa (1640-1668) are built in what is known as "raia húmida" or "wet line" that corresponds to the territory borders the Miño valley, called Baixo Miño in the Region of Galicia and Vale do Minho in Portugal region. Although the special issue of the journal Castles of Spain which includes focusing on Galicia, we believe that we should address the strengths of both sides of the border, as they constitute an indivisible reality. It covers the changes between the medieval architecture and modern defense and how they affect the territory under consideration. It also addresses the formation of a fortified cultural landscape is constantly changing and it is understood as a system. It also analyzes in detail one of the sub-systems which is articulated in this landscape, the so-called sub-system Goián-Vila Nova de Cerveira-Medos.
