Abstract

The first NMR study of a 27-nor-triterpene of the/~-amyrin type is described. In addition to conventional 1D NMR methods, 2D shift-correlated NMR techniques (DQF COSY, TOCSY, HMQC and HMBC) were used for the complete IH and t3C NMR resonance assignments of 27-nor-olean-13-en-3-acetyloxy-28-oic acid and pyrocincholic acid

Samples of lsertia haenkeana were kindly provided by Mr L. Poveda (National Museum San Josr, Costa Rica). We are grateful to Dr P. Hoot for his active cooperation and to the late Dr Borges for his encouragement at the beginning of this work
