The Palomares fault zone (PFZ) has a sinistral slip that accommodates the northward displacement of the tectonic indentation of the Águilas Arc and is part of the Eastern Betic Shear Zone (EBSZ). Then, the PFZ zone is considered to run from the Cabrera Range to the Águilas Arc front. The PFZ also constitutes the eastern boundary between the arc and several sedimentary basins, namely, the Vera, Pulpí basins and the western part of the Guadalentín Corridor. In this research, new gravity prospecting data have been acquired together with geological field observations to study the influence of the PFZ in the geometry of the basins. The results show that the basement is clearly affected by the PFZ at the eastern boundary of the Vera Basin, where a vertical change in the sediment thickness is observed. In contrast, the form of the Pulpí Basin resembles a synformal geometry. Northwards, the Guadalentín Corridor presents evidence of faulting, with several basement highs and steps at its south-eastern boundary, which correspond to several minor faults. Therefore, we consider that the length of Palomares fault zone was overestimated and that the fault zone only extends from the Cabrera Range to the southern part of the Pulpí Basin. In that region, the EBSZ active faults would be discontinuous.
