Borders and nationality act as mechanisms that allow members of a political community to exclusively reserve for themselves the opportunity to obtain certain essential resources and services. Both institutional devices, which go hand in hand in the framework of migration policies regulating human mobility, serve to exclude/include in the political community, both in territorial terms and in terms of legal-political membership. They are key cogs in the machinery that enables the perpetuation of privileges in a global world burdened by inequality.
