[EN] The process of iron induced chlorosis has been studied in connection with the polyphenol formation in leaves of pear-tree. Polyphenols are formed after chlorophyll and their formation is conditioned to the amount of chlorophyll protector present in the leaf. The possible role to be played by the quinone-polyphenol system is discussed in connection with the mechanism for protection of the chlorophyll. The reduction from quinone to polyphenol may be carried out by means of the ferrous compound, present as a consequence of the protection of the chlorophyll. The possible conditions for the formation of necrotic brown substances are briefly discussed.
