Studies on 42-chromosome triticale. I. The production of the amphiploids

Abstract

[EN] With the purpose of obtaining 42-chromosome triticale types of practical value for Spanish rye lands, the wheat species Triticum durum, T . turgidum, T. polonicum, T. carthlicum, T. dicoccum, T. dicoccoides and T. Timopheevi have been crossed with Secale cereale of various origins. Sixty four wheat genotypes and 82 rye varieties, populations or inbred lines are involved in our crossing programme. From 305 cross combinations carried out, 54 produced at least one F1, plant with 21 chromosomes. Intergeneric hybrids were obtained with all Triticum species involved in the crosses. By colchinice treatment nine triticale types with 42 chromosomes have been obtained: five from the cross combination T. durum X S. cereale, three from T. dicoccum x S cereale and one from T. dicoccoides x S. cereale.
