Estudio estadístico de la ruptura de nanocontactos metálicos: Hacia la interpretación de los histogramas de conductancia

Abstract

El interés en el estudio de sistemas de baja dimensionalidad ha aumentado con el surgimiento de nuevas técnicas tanto experimentales como teóricas. En la física de estructuras de unos pocos átomos o de sistemas mesoscópicos existen varias técnicas de estudio. Entre las más factibles y menos costosas de realizar se encuentra el estudio experimental de nanocontactos metálicos, que permite obtener información sobre las propiedades estructurales y de transporte del material a escala nanométrica. La presente tesis pretende entender la correlación entre la geometría de los nanohilos metálicos y las propiedades de transporte electrónico, para poder obtener una interpretación de la información que se esconde en los experimentos de histogramas de conductancia, tomando en cuenta diversos materiales y criterios experimentales. Para ello se toma como base la simulación de los experimentos de ruptura de nanocontactos, por medio del método de Dinámica Molecular. Analizamos la ruptura de uniones de Níquel, Aluminio y Cobre, obteniendo estructuras estables de cadenas pentagonales, el estudio se realiza por medio de la evaluación de distintas orientaciones iníciales y temperaturas, y se muestra un novedoso método por medio del cual realizar un análisis de histogramas de sección mínima para estudiar las estructuras tipo capas y subcapas que se producen durante la ruptura del nanocontacto.
