Abstract

[PO] A temperatura da superfície do mar afeta a dissolução do CO2 atmosférico na superfície dos oceanos, uma vez que a solubilidade diminui com o aumento da temperatura. Se a concentração atmosférica global de CO2 continuar a aumentar no mesmo nível de hoje, prevê-se que o pH médio dos oceanos caia 0,3 unidades de pH nas águas superficiais até o final deste século. Isso potencializaria os impactos dramáticos já observados em organismos calcificadores marinhos. O principal objetivo deste trabalho é reconstruir a temperatura da superfície do mar, durante os últimos 25 mil anos na margem portuguesa. Os resultados preliminares mostram que as águas oceânicas na região do esporão da Estremadura eram mais frias do que na área de Sines, refletindo uma influência mais forte da fria e rica em nutrientes Corrente de Portugal e dos eventos de ressurgência costeira e frontal no Norte
