Hacia una estimación nacional de la calidad de la madera de nuestras masas productivas

Abstract

Dada la carencia de información en las estadísticas forestales nacionales sobre la calidad de la madera de las principales especies productoras españolas, recientemente se ha desarrollado un protocolo de toma de datos en el Inventario Forestal Nacional (IFN) para estimarla visualmente. La clasificación en diferentes calidades se hace en función de variables cualitativas y cuantitativas del fuste de los árboles en pie, así como de diversos factores bióticos relativos a la copa. En este trabajo detallamos este nuevo protocolo y presentamos dos casos de estudio. En primer lugar se estima la calidad del fuste del pino silvestre (Pinus sylvestris L.) en la provincia de Burgos basándose en variables tales como la presencia de ramas en los primeros metros del fuste, la flecha máxima o el tipo de curvatura del pie. En segundo lugar se estima tanto la presencia como el daño causado por el gorgojo del eucalipto (Gonipterus scutellatus Gyll.) y por Mycosphaerella spp. en los eucaliptares de la cornisa cantábrica. Los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto las múltiples oportunidades que ofrece el nuevo protocolo implantado en el IFN para ampliar y completar la información productiva que tenemos de nuestros sistemas forestales a escala nacional.
