Abstract

[EN]: The structure and main characteristics of TIERRA: Thematic Network of Earth Science in Spain (http://tierra.rediris.es) are described in this paper. Basically, this website is a place where scientists and academicists in geosciences can find and use diverse electronic tools (hosting of research projects, Ph.D theses, geonews, etc.) to develop and implement their routinary activity. TIERRA houses seven organisations and institutions: HidroRed, AEQUA ONG, TPS-Spain, FOCITED, FORUNECT and IWGFBI, and also it is a mirror of SGE and AEC. In addition, it hosts three scientific journals ("Cuaternario y Geomorfología" and "Tierra y Tecnología") and a new electronic magazine: "Revista Tierra", which is currently in progress. In the specific section of research topics, TIERRA comprises seven large chapters: Antarctica, Blocks of Ice, Planetary Geology, Marine Geology, Mineral Deposits, Biodeterioration and Getafe Rock. Besides, it is a mirror of various IGCP-UNESCO projects. Finally, it includes some useful resources for geoscientists (i.e. thematic links, distribution lists).
