[EN] The cytological study of some Spanish annual species of Trifolium was made. This study became urgent in order that the evolutionary tendencies and the taxonomic relations of the species belonging to this genus could be understood. A fair agreement between the classic taxonomic position and the cytological data was observed. Both the chromosome number and the karyotype characteristics confirm the relationship between T. hirtum and T. Cherleri (2n = 10) on one hand, and T. gemellum and T. phleoides (2n = 14), on the other. The chromosome types of the subgenus Lagopus were compared and some philogenetical aspects were considered.
