[EN] Union strucures of 154 pear varieties grafted on quince were studied and compared with the results obtained by other workers. Observations were made on the effect of an intermediate (Beurré Hardy) placed between pear scion and Quince C rootstock (East Malling selection). Altogether 157 pear varieties were tested and none presented symptoms of incompatibility in the upper unions. Lower unions, between Beurré Hardy and Quince C, showed structural modifications due to the presence of the variety but its mechanical strength was not affected. No difference was found in the degree of compatibility when some pear varieties were grafted on different quince rootstocks.
