[EN] The earliest research in the lake Natron region began almost 100 years ago. The fossiliferous potential of the Peninj area was discovered by Leakey & ISaac in the early 1960's. However, until the 1990's systematic research was not undertaken in the region. This work sums up all the research carried out at Peninj. It is also presented the current discussion about the archaeological framework in which current investigation is taking place and its bearing on Plio-Pleistocene African archaeology.
