Abstract

La enorme y acertada obra de restauración de la Alhambra, realizada por su arquitecto director entre 1923 y 1936, Leopoldo Torres Balbás, ha sido objeto de notables investigaciones. Sin embargo, su actividad en Granada ha sido estudiada solo de manera concreta en algunos monumentos, pero sin una visión conjunta. Su intervención en edificios andalusíes de la ciudad empezó en 1927, dos años antes de que fuera nombrado arquitecto conservador de los monumentos de la 6ª Zona, y duró hasta su cese en 1936. Su gestión fue siempre muy proactiva, pues con el dinero de las cuotas de entradas a la Alhambra consiguió comprar para el Estado y restaurar los cinco edificios andalusíes más notables de la ciudad, que estaban en peligro de ruina o demolición: El Bañuelo, el Corral del Carbón, la casa del Chapiz, Daralhorra y la casa de los Girones. Todos se estudian en este trabajo, analizando los proyectos de restauración y comparándolos con las obras ejecutadas. De este modo, se puede ver los aciertos conseguidos en unas intervenciones con economía de medios y, también, las contradicciones entre los principios teóricos generales y la realidad de cada uno, que exige una intervención diferente.
