Epigenética, RNA y enfermedades neurodegenerativas.

Abstract

Mecanismos reguladores epigenéticos, tales como las modificaciones posttraduccionales de las histonas, son esenciales para mantener la identidad celular y alteraciones en estos procesos son la causa de múltiples enfermedades humanas, incluidas enfermedades neurodegenerativas y cáncer. Recientemente, la actividad epigenética de los complejos Polycomb ha sido asociada a la enfermedad de Huntington (EH) y en general a trastornos neurodegenerativos. La deficiencia in vivo de estos complejos en células del cuerpo estriado (que recibe la información de la corteza cerebral) provoca la activación de genes no neuronales que provocan una fisiología neuronal alterada y el desarrollo de una progresiva y deletérea neurodegeneración. En esta comunicación presentaremos nuestros esfuerzos en la identificación de factores de la transcripción y el procesamiento del RNA, previamente relacionados con enfermedades neurodegenerativas, que participan en la actividad de los complejos epigenéticos de Polycomb para regular importantes genes neuronales.
