Abstract

SMC (sheet moulding compound) is a composite material commonly used to manufacture parts by a hot compression moulding process. This composite has two key characteristics for the automotive sector: it allows parts to be produced at a high rate of production and it has great flexibility for the design of parts of various shapes and sizes. However, like other composite materials, its primary drawback lies in the limited recyclability, resulting in their disposal in landfills at the end of their lifespan. In this work, we present a new and sustainable SMC using a liquid thermoplastic resin patented at CSIC
