Este artículo considera las ruinas y estatuas de la Antigüedad en contexto islámico, combinando una doble perspectiva de análisis referente tanto a los estudios de recepción como al efecto o respuesta emocional y afectiva que generaban los vestigios o artefactos. A partir de las fuentes árabes consultadas, este trabajo evidencia que las ruinas y estatuas generaban diversas respuestas, desde el miedo y el recelo hasta el deseo sexual, y que más allá de recursos literarios o topoi, el valor emocional de las ruinas y la capacidad de interacción de las estatuas determinaron su reutilización o recontextualización posterior.
