Lightning-triggered remagnetization in the Serra del Esquers Permian andesites (Cadí basin, Eastern Pyrenees)

Abstract

En andesitas pérmicas de la Serra dels Esquers, situada en la cuenca del Cadí (Pirineos Orientales), se ha realizado una desmagnetización térmica en 4 estaciones localizadas en un cuerpo intrusivo (posiblemente de tipo pipe) que se emplaza en materiales del Carbonífero-Pérmico. El propósito era datar la intrusión o reconocer la existencia de rotaciones locales por la fracturación en bloques del mismo, pero se ha observado que 3 de las estaciones han sufrido una remagnetización por rayos. Tan sólo una estación se puede reconocer una componente primaria de edad Pérmica-Triásica, que permite (provisionalmente) corroborar la edad de la intrusión.

In the Serra dels Esquers rocks, located in the Cadí basin (Eastern Pyrenees), a thermal demagnetization has been carried out in 4 sites located in an intrusive body that is emplaced in Carboniferous-Permian rocks. The aim was to date the intrusion or to recognize the existence of possible local rotations due to fracturation in blocks, but we observed that 3 sites present a remagnetization induced by lightning. Only one site provided a possible primary component of a Permian- Triassic age.
