This contribution analyses the mediation part of the Neapolitan ceto civile for the maintenance of peace and loyalty of the Kingdom of Naples in the second half of the 17th century. It studies and reassesses the role of its most prominent member, Francesco D'Andrea, as an intermediary capable of leading new strategies to guaranteeing peace between the monarch, the viceroy and the city of Naples after the generalised crisis of the Masaniello revolt that ended with the declaration of the Neapolitan Republic in 1647.
