Abstract

Notificamos en este trabajo la obtención de un nuevo conjunto faunístico del Mioceno superior obtenido en la prolífica Rambla de Valdecebro turolense. Esta compuesto el mismo por los siguientes taxones: Galerix socialis, Prolagus crusafonti, Hispanomys peralensis, 0ccitanomys sondaari, Parapodemus sp., Machairodus sp., Pliohyrax cf. graecus, Hipparion primigenium koenigswaldi, Micromeryx sp. y también Mustelidae, Gomphoteriidae, Suidae y Boselaphini indeterminados. El nivel fosilífero, llamado "La Cantera", se localiza cerca del yacimiento bien documentado de "Arquillo de la Fontana" (Teruel). El nivel fosilífero de La Cantera está incluido en una secuencia lacustre en la base de sedimentos neógenos, estratigráficamente muy cerca de las series del Mesozoico. El interés de esta nueva fauna radica en que nos permite caracterizar con micro y macromamíferos la transición Vallesiense (MN 10) -Turoliense (MN 11), ya que hasta el presente Hispanomys peralensis estaba restringido al VaIlesiense superior y Occitanomys sondaari al Turoliense inferior. Por otro lado, la asociación de macromamíferos contribuye a cubrir en parte la notoria escasez de datos sobre los mismos en Teruel para esta edad. Es destacable la constatación de la presencia de hiracoideos (damanes) lofoselenodontos en nuestro país, apenas conocidos hasta el momento por un material muy escaso (Can Llobateres, Golpe y Crusafont, 1981).

A new Upper Miocene faunal association has been collected in the fossiliferous Valdecebro Rambla (Teruel, Central Spain). It consists of Galerix socialis, Prolagus crusafonti, Hispanomys peralensis, Occitanomys sondaari, Parapodemus sp., Machairodus sp., Pliohyrax cf. graecus, Hipparion primigenium koenigswaldi, Micromeryx sp., and also contains Mustelidae, Gomphoteriidae, Suidae and Boselaphini indeterminate. The fossiliferous level, called "La Cantera" is located near the well documented site of "Arquillo de La Fontana" (Teruel). The La Cantera bone-bed is included in a lacustrine sequence at the base of the neogene sediments, stratigraphically very close to the Mesozoic series. The faunal association is interesting because it allow us to define the transition between the Vallesian (MN 10) and the Turolian (MN 11) with micro and macromammals. It's important to mark that until now Hispanomys peralensis was restricted to Upper Vallesian and Occitanomys sondaari to Lower Turolian. On the other hand, the new macromammal remains increase the little understanding about them that exits for this age in the area. We are able to record for the first time the certain presence of lophoselenodont hyraxes (dassies) in Spain. Previous data about Spanish hyraxes are very limited and they don't include cheek teeth (Can Llobateres, Barcelona; Golpe y Crusafont, 1981).
