Este trabajo se centra en las actividades editoriales desarrolladas por los medicos universitarios originarios de la Corona de Aragón -el valenciano Francesc Argilagues (fl.ca.147O-1508) y el mallorquín Guillem Caldentei (fl.1496-1519)para las prensas norditalianas de las últimas dos décadas del siglo XV. En un contexto de transición entre la cultura medieval y el humanismo, sus peculiares actividades les acreditan como destacados exponentes tempranos de un oficio, el de editor científico, que surgió como ocupación entonces, al calor del invento de Gutenberg, e ilustran los inicios del principio del reemplazamiento del manuscrito por el impreso en el ámbito del libro médico.
