En este trabajo se estudia cómo percibieron los médicos prácticos universitarios del Mediterráneo latino la llamada Peste Negra de 1348, y en qué medida iniciaron la construcción como entidad morbosa, de esta calamidad social. Para ello se han analizado seis de las obras médicas más significativas escritas sobre la peste en las fechas de la epidemia, cuyos autores fueron: Jacme d'Agramont, Gentile da Foligno, Giovanni da Penna, Alfonso de Córdoba, un anónimo "práctico de Montpellier" y el Colegio de doctores de la facultad de medicina de París.
