Estrategia reproductiva de las hembras de Brycon guatemalensis en el Lago de Nicaragua y su importancia en la gestión pesquera

Abstract

La especie Brycon guatemalensis (Machaca, Macabil) es un pez de agua dulce ampliamente distribuido en las aguas continentales desde México hasta Panamá. En el Lago de Nicaragua es la segunda especie más importante por su abundancia y frecuencia de aparición en las capturas y se pesca con fines deportivos con cañas de pescar y con fines comerciales utilizando redes de enmalle. Resultado de un estudio realizado en el lago en el 2004 se recomendó como una medida de gestión pesquera la utilización de redes con luz de malla de 100 mm para la pesca de 12 especies (8 de gran valor comercial en el mercado Centroamericano y 4 que tienen como destino el comercio local) taxonómicamente y morfométricamente diferentes. Esta medida que se aplica para algunas de las especies estudiadas se basó en estimaciones de la talla de primera madurez a partir de observaciones macroscópicas de las gónadas y en un estudio de selectividad de la red. Para contribuir a mejorar las medidas de gestión que reduzcan la vulnerabilidad de esta especie a la presión pesquera, se presentan los resultados de un estudio histológico de los estados de madurez de sus gónadas y un estudio sobre su biología reproductiva
