La pesca de los tiburones pelágicos y su gestión: el caso del marrajo azul (Isurus oxyrinchus)

Abstract

Los tiburones pelágicos se encuentran sujetos a una fuerte explotación pesquera a nivel mundial. Esto se debe en gran medida al alto valor económico alcanzado por las aletas de estos escualos en los mercados orientales. No obstante, carecemos de una regulación explícita para la pesca de estas especies debido a que, hasta hace poco, eran considerados como captura accesoria, cambiando esto radicalmente en los últimos años. Baum et al. (2003) han constatado declives importantes en las poblaciones de tiburones pelágicos del Atlántico Noreste, con descensos cercanos, en algunos casos, al 90%. En este sentido la Comisión Europea ha impulsado recientemente el Plan de Acción para los Tiburones (Shark Action Plan), en el que se perfilan actuaciones encaminadas a su gestión sostenible
