Abstract

Antes del año 1970 la explotación de recursos provenientes del mar en Uruguay era relativamente escasa y se limitaba a la pesca costera. En 1970, se creó la Comisión de Desarrollo de la Industria Pesquera, con el objeto de promover el Plan de Desarrollo Pesquero Uruguayo y en el año 1973 se firmó el Tratado del Río de la Plata y su Frente Marítimo entre Uruguay y Argentina, con lo que quedó conformada la Zona Común de Pesca Argentino - Uruguaya.
