Abstract

Creado con la denominación de "Comisión para la Carta Geológica de Madrid y General del Reino", mediante Real Decreto de 12 de julio de 1849, en 1910 pasó a denominarse Instituto Geológico de España. En 1927 se reorganiza, moderniza los laboratorios, se instala en su actual sede en la calle Ríos Rosas de Madrid, y adquiere el nombre de Instituto Geológico y Minero de España. Entre 1988 y 2000 pasó a denominarse Instituto Tecnológico y Geominero de España, volviendo a recuperar su denominación más tradicional, Instituto Geológico y Minero de España en ese último año.
