Abstract

Esta tesis describe la distinta explotación del recurso alimenticio de los crustáceos decápodos entre los peces demersales del mar Cantábrico. El estudio está basado en el análisis de más de 6.500 contenidos estomacales de 10 especies de peces, mostrando que los crustáceos decápodos son importantes en la dieta de los peces demersales más abundantes del mar Cantábrico y que forman parte esencial en la alimentación de los peces entre 15 y 50 cm de longitud total. El reparto de las distintas especies de decápodos se produce a dos niveles: el de grupos de especies predadoras y el de cada predador por separado. Esta especificidad se mantiene en el tiempo e independientemente de la distribución longitudinal y batimétrica. También se mantiene esta preferencia por determinadas presas de crustáceos decápodos a lo largo de toda la vida de sus predadores. El análisis de la relación de tamaños predador - presa revela que los grupos de especies predadoras se segregan por el distinto tamaño de las presas que comparten. También se estimó el consumo anual de decápodos por parte de los predadores analizados. Se discute el elevado número de dimensiones que intervienen en la repartición de este recurso y la influencia de la actividad pesquera.

This thesis describes the resource partitioning of decapod crustaceans by demersal fishes in the Cantabrian Sea. The study is based on the analysis of the stomach contents from over 6.500 individuals of 10 fish species, and shows the importance of decapod crustaceans in the diet of the most abundant demersal fishes in the Cantabrian Sea and that they form an essential part of the food of fishes of between 15 and 50 cm total length. The different decapod species are partitioned at two levels: the group of predator species and that of each predator separately. This specificity is maintained over time and is independent of longitudinal and bathymetric distribution. This preference for certain decapod crustacean preys also remains throughout the lives of their predators. The analysis of the predator-prey length relationship reveals that groups of predator species are segregated by the different length of the preys they share. The annual consumption of decapods by the predators analysed is also estimated. The large number of dimensions affecting the partitioning of this resource by demersal predators and the influence of fishing activity are discussed.
