El edificio isla de Los Ajaches (Lanzarote): episodios eruptivos y su evaluación petrogenética

Abstract

El edificio volcánico de los Ajaches se construyó de forma independiente en el Mioceno medio, en la parte meridional de la Isla de Lanzarote, y ha permanecido inactivo desde entonces. Sus afloramientos se extienden desde Femés hasta Punta Papagayo por toda la zona SE de la Isla, conformando la zona elevada de los Ajaches y los pequeños restos erosivos situados al sur de Yaiza y de las Salinas del Janubio. Constituye el edificio más antiguo de la Isla y parece haberse levantado, al menos en la parte de su volumen emergido, en un único episodio de duración relativamente corta (aproximadamente 1 Ma). Esta formación no presenta discontinuidades de importancia en los 300 m visibles del escarpe de Pico Redondo, que en su totalidad presenta una única polaridad incluso en las tobas submarinas. Sin embargo, esta continuidad estratigráfica y temporal no se corresponde con la diversidad de las características petrológicas y geoquímicas de los materiales emitidos.
