Criterios de grado en la diagénesis y el metamorfismo incipiente

Abstract

El conjunto de procesos que transforman un sedimento detrítico en una roca metamórfica ha sido hasta hace poco escasamente estudiado. Dos son los problemas básicos que han sido determinantes en el atraso del estado de conocimientos sobre el tema: 1) Problemas metodológicos y 2) Nomenclatura. El desarrollo de métodos más resolutivos como las SEM y TEM han permitido avanzar en el punto 1. Mientras las reuniones internacionales promovidas por el IGCP 294 y la publicación de la monografía de Frey (1987) han permitido clarificar las cuestiones relacionadas con el punto 2. Se comentan tres de los criterios que más se han utilizado para el establecimiento del grado diagenético/ metamórfico en materiales clásticos: el sistema esméctica/ ilita, la cristalinidad de la ilita y el politipo de la mica dioctaédrica potásica.
