[EN] An approach to Fernando Ostiz's creative work-concerning not only the outcome of his scientific work, but also the way in which he developed it according to the social and cultural context he lived in-is proposed. Consequently, the contrast established by the author between the Cuban savant's image and the Spanish anthropologist Julio Caro Baroja is quite interesting. Other subjects regarding the links between Ortiz and his contemporary Spanish intellectuals are likewise considered.

[ES] Aproximación a la labor creativa de Fernando Ortiz que atiende no sólo a los resultados de su obra científica, sino también a la forma en que desarrolló ésta en función del contexto sociocultural en que le tocó vivir. En ese sentido, resulta de interés la comparación que establece la autora entre la figura del sabio cubano y el antropólogo español Julio Caro Baroja, así como otros elementos en torno a los vínculos entre Ortiz y los intelectuales españoles de la época.
