Abstract

[EN] A methodology based on microscopio and X-ray diffraction studies is proposed, for the cases where the grain size of chlorites do not make available the use of other methods. ALBEE’s scheme is completed with the definition of ten optic chlorite types, which permit an approach to the Fe content. A model for the calculation of the chlorite formula, based on two chemical parameters – heavy atom and A1 content – is proposed. The test carried out on well-known chemical composition samples using the formulae and diagrams proposed in bibliography, show that the best results are: 1) ALBEE’s formula (1962) for A1, and 2) BRINDLEY’s formula (1961) for heavy atom content (essentially Fe) A new method based on the calculation of the structure factors ratios F004/F003 and F004/F005 is proposed, with better results than the methods used previously. In order to get the structural factors from experimental intensities, the elaboration of a geometric factor curve for each diffractometer and sample preparation procedure is proposed.
