COMPARATIVE STUDY ON GROWTH OF TURBOT (Scophthalmus maximus L.) CULTIVATED IN TANKS AND FLOATING CAGES. Between November 1988 and September 1989 a project has been carried out to compare the rates of growth of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus L.) cultivated in tanks ánd floating cages located in the Ria de Vigo (NW of Spain). Results obtained in terms of survival (89.9% and 88.1%) welght increase (213% and 182%) and food converslon indexes (1.6 to 4.2 and 2.0 to 4.4) have been very similar in both cultivation systems. Two different types of floors have been tested in the cages: knotless net and glass fiber sheet. The group cultivated in cages has needed a brief period of adaptation to the new habitat. Pouling appears as the main disadvantage in the cage culture
