Métodos de transporte de paralarvas y adultos de pulpo Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797

Abstract

In order to exchange live samples of the octopus Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797 among research laboratories or companies, two techniques of transportation were developed: the first one for paralarvae, in 30 l plastic bags filled with seawater (1/3) and O2 (2/3), and the second for adults with a mean weight of about 1 kg, placed in 16 cm diameter PVC tubes covered with mesh in a 200 l tank. Trials were made at different temperatures and densities, during 24 hours. The best results for paralarvae (mortality < 1 %) were obtained with a temperature of about 14 oC at a density up to 3 000 indiv l¿1, while mortalities lesser than 5 % were obtained for adults in a temperature range of 13 to 19 oC and density of up to 165 kg m¿3.
