Abstract

Las dicroceliosis son infecciones parasitarias causadas por las especies del género Dicrocoelium Dujardin, 1845 (Trematoda, Digenea), aunque de forma primordial por Dicrocoelium dendriticum. Estos parásitos, que evolucionan en moluscos terrestres y hormigas, se localizan en los conductos biliares y vesícula biliar de numerosas especies de mamíferos domésticos y salvajes, principalmente rumiantes, que actúan como huéspedes (= hospedadores en España) definitivos, causando en ellos hepatitis, fibrosis de los conductos biliares y síndrome de mala digestión, con pérdida de peso corporal, baja producción, emaciación y, a veces, muerte. La infección de los huéspedes definitivos ocurre por la ingestión de hormigas que albergan metacercarias infectantes. Esta enfermedad es, generalmente, de curso crónico y la respuesta inmune no protege de las reinfecciones. En ocasiones dichos parásitos también pueden afectar al ser humano.
