[EN]The invention relates to a mutant calmodulin (CaM) protein which is deficient in phosphorylation of at least one of the two sole tyrosine residues of native CaM (CaM mutant Y99F, CaM mutant Y138F, CaM mutant Y99F/Y138F) and to a genetic engineering method of obtaining said mutant CaM. The inventive mutant CaM has many applications which take advantage of the fact that the physiological properties thereof are different from those of native CaM, owing to the elimination of cell signalling pathways involving the phosphorylated forms of CaM in the aforementioned mutant residues. Said applications include, inter alia, using the inventive mutant CaM in methods of identifying novel CaM inhibitors and assessing the effect of already-identified CaM inhibitors, which are of enormous interest in the pharmaceutical field.
