[ES] Este trabajo aborda el estudio del papel de la escritura y la producción de documentos como tecnologías aprovechables en el desarrollo de conflictos de tipo político y jurisdiccional. A través del estudio de un caso concreto (el pleito que enfrentó al monasterio y al burgo de Silos), se pone de relieve el papel desempeñado por la producción de documentos, su preservación en archivos y cartularios, la falsificación de documentos y el desarrollo de capacidades de crítica diplomática como recursos empleados por los diferentes actores implicados en la disputa.
[EN]This paper explores the importance of writing and document making as technologies applicabe to political and jurisdictional disputes. One specific lawsuit (in which the monastery of Santo Domingo disputed with the town of Silos over jurisdictional issues) reveals the important role played by the production and preservation of documents (both in archives and cartularies),as well as technologies of forgery and knowledge of the principles of diplomatic criticism as crucial resources for all actors involved in the dispute.
