Abstract

Venerupis pullastra y V. decussata son especies gonocóricas. Tanto el momento de la madurez sexual como la época de puesta son distintas para las dos especies, así como el momento de su ciclo vital con mayor biomasa. Los anillos de crecimiento que aparecen en las valvas de ambas especies son un buen método de valoración del crecimiento anual. El crecimiento en longitud de ambas especies se ajusta a la ecuación de von Bertalanffy. La mortalidad natural de V. decussata es del 8.5% anual, para almeja de talla constante y la de V. pullastra del 17.7% en las mismas condiciones. Una cohorte cualquiera de una población no explotada de V. decussata en las condiciones estudiadas alcanzará su biomasa máxima a los nueve años de vida y para V. pullastra a los cuatro años.
