Integrando el Repositorio e-IEO y ORCID

Abstract

[EN] This is a description of the project implemented in e-IEO, the repository of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, to integrate it with the ORCID system. Undertaken in 2016 and the first quarter of 2017, the project forms part of an institutional strategy to provide researchers with high-value services. Its aims were twofold. Firstly, to give authors widely-recognised identifiers, like ORCID, which are increasingly required in scientific publication processes. Secondly, to take advantage of the process of self-archiving of researchers’ studies in the e-IEO repository in order to update their profiles on the orcid.org platform, improving the completeness and visibility of these profiles and also avoiding double depositing. The various project phases included the management of the ORCID membership at institutional level; the assigning of identifiers to the Institute’s authors; linkage of ORCID identifiers with the author identifiers used by the IEO and therefore with the authority and author profile functionalities present in the repository; the authorisation collection process (application tokens) that enables the repository to be integrated with ORCID in a transparent manner; and finally, the deployment of advanced services, such as the automatic depositing of publications from the e-IEO repository to the ORCID profiles. The project has demonstrated the viability of pursuing strong integration approaches between the e-IEO repository and ORCID, achieving the effective integration of the authors` processes with the ORCID system. In the context of the project, IEO researchers have been given the capacity to update their ORCID profiles through integrated tools within the processes they were already using routinely.
