Abstract

La productividad pesquera no puede entenderse a medio y largo plazo si no es en un contexto ecológico amplio, de carácter económico. La machacona discusión de las capturas totales admisibles (TCAs), aunque una tarea indispensable, casi ha desterrado otra consideración que no sea la relación entre el esfuerzo de pesca y la biomasa capturable; miopía que ha cogido desprevenidos a los administradores de recursos pesqueros, que ven como se frustran sus previsiones. Un ejemplo dramático están siendo las pesquerías de bacalao del Canadá, que después de haber reducido el esfuerzo de pesca, hasta terminar por cerrar los caladeros a propios y extraños, no se recuperan. Por otro lado, las pesquerías de bacalao del norte de Noruega han pasado últimamente por momentos de esplendor insospechados parar los noruegos, aunque no para nosotros.
