[EN] The San Simón inlet is located in the inner part of the Ría of Vigo (NW of Spain). This area was sampled taking surface sediments, estuarine water and fresh water samples from Oitabén and Redondela rivers. The results of the analysis indicate that Fe is accumulated in the sediment sited in the inner part of the inlet, near to the Rande Straits, The rivers, thar suppot around 100 and 450 nM of Fe, are important sources of this metal to the inlet. During the winter, the dissolved Fe shows no-conservative behaviour being accumulated along the inlet sediments. The sea water contains below 30 nM of Fe. However, the Fe associated with phytoplankton may be the main source of this metal to the sediment during summer. The sequential analysis of the Fe fractionation in the sediment shows that this metal is found largely assocaited with the oxidable and residual fractions (>60%). Minor percentages of Fe are found as oxides/hydroxides (~19%) whereas that Fe associated with carbonates exchangeable phases is negligible
