Abstract

[EN] A 2D hydrodynamic model has been coupled with a particle tracking model to study the circulation and dispersion of pollutabts in A Corunha Say (NW, Spain). The circulation is strongly dependent on the existence of a big central clockwise eddy generated by the dock Barrie de la Maza. Tidal velocities of 0.1- 0.2 ms-1 and residual velocities of 0.005 - 0.015 ms-1 were observed in the central part of the estuary, although bigger values can be attained near the River Mero mouth. Passive tracers show a slow renovation rate in the harbor area. Besides particles coming from the river area may either join the central eddy and leave the estuary or be temporarily trapped in the small eddies near the river mouth delaying their in.corporation fo the central eddy and further way out of the estuaiy
