Nuevos métodos astronómicos en el estudio de la figura de la Tierra

Abstract

En los últimos años se han desarrollado varios métodos astronómicos para tratar de resolver el problema de la determinación de la figura de la Tierra. Todos ellos se basan en el conocimiento preciso de la posición de la LUJ1a, determinada con relación al Sol (observación de eclipses) o a las estrellas próximas en la esfera celeste (observación de ocultaciones, o fotografías de la Luna). La posición de la Luna así obtenida dependerá evidentemente de la del ohservador sobre la superficie terrestre, es decir, de sus coordenadas geocéntricas y de la figura de la Tierra. Pero es en absoluto independiente de la dirección de la vertical en el lugar de observación.
