El "efecto-distrito" en las empresas innovadoras valencianas: desempeño económico y creación de conocimiento

Abstract

El acceso a 25 fuentes administrativas distintas, que nos han facilitado en la mayor parte de los casos información estadística no publicada o explotada, nos ha permitido la elaboración de una primera base de datos que incluye a 5.553 empresas innovadoras valencianas ubicadas en 81 Sistemas Locales de Trabajo (SLT) de la Comunitat Valenciana que incluyen 40 distritos industriales (DI) y 41 SLT no distrito (NODI). La confección de la anterior base de datos constituye el primer aspecto abordado por la comunicación para difundir las fuentes empleadas y las causas del método seguido.. La información mencionada ha permitido la selección de dos bloques de variables sobre aspectos económicos-financieros y de creación de conocimiento en las empresas innovadoras valencianas. Hemos procedido a su contraste en ambos casos, confrontando las ubicadas en los DI valencianos con las situadas fuera de éstos. Ello ha permitido investigar la presencia del llamado “efecto-distrito” en un tipo de empresas escasamente transitado por la literatura. Los resultados obtenidos han señalado la existencia de algunas diferencias significativas que, sin embargo, no aportan evidencia suficiente sobre la presencia de dicho efecto especialmente entre algunas variables representativas del desempeño económico de la empresa innovadora districtual. Esta circunstancia, unida a los resultados observados en las variables sobre conocimiento, sugieren la presencia de un modelo de innovación menos sofisticado en las empresas del distrito, pero también señalan los posibles efectos provocados por la pérdida de rentabilidad relativa experimentada por diversos sectores manufactureros tradicionales respecto a los obtenidos por empresas innovadoras de actividades distintas y más presentes en las áreas no distrito.
