Abstract

Nació en Sevilla el 2 diciembre 1925. Cursó el Bachillerato en el colegio de los jesuitas de Sevilla, ingresó en la Compañía de Jesús (18 de agosto 1941) en el colegio de San Luís Gonzaga de El Puerto de Santa María, donde hizo los estudios de Humanidades (1943-1947). Fue profesor de Latín, lenguas modernas y Geografía e Historia en el colegio de San Estanislao de Kostka de El Palo, Málaga (1950-1953) y posteriormente de Ética y Derecho Natural, Historia de la Literatura y lenguas modernas en el Seminario Mayor de Guadix, agregado a la Facultad de Teología de Granada (1960-1962). En su nuevo destino de Huelva fundó y dirigió la Escuela de Mandos Intermedios de Empresa de Huelva, e impartió la asignatura de Relaciones Humanas (1966-1971). Convalidó estudios en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de la Laguna (1971-1973). Se doctoró en Historia en la Universidad de Sevilla, donde fue colaborador de la Cátedra de Historia Moderna y Contemporánea de América (1975, 1976). Miembro del Instituto Histórico de la Compañía de Jesús (Roma) desde 1977, fue colaborador y coordinador del Diccionario Histórico de la Compañía de Jesús (1977-2001). Profesor emérito de la Facultad de Historia Eclesiástica de la Pontificia Universidad Gregoriana de Roma, donde tuvo la cátedra de Historia de la Iglesia en América. Ha participado en numerosos congresos nacionales e internacionales en Europa y América, e impartido lecciones en la Universidad de Auburn (Alabama, EE.UU.) y conferencias en diversas Universidades de Hispano América
