Abstract

[EN] This paper is focused on the effect of starvation (7 days) on survival, weight, biometrics and fecundity of rotifers previously enriched on 5 different diets (microalgae, baker's yeast and inert diet). The effect of enrichment is not significant. However, 3 different periods can be differentiated on the starvation period. During the first 24-48 hours, egg production increases, egg and rotifer volume do not change and individual dry weight decreases (15%). During the two following days, all the parameters studied decrease, particularly fecundity, except survival that is similar to that of day 0. Finally from day 5 to 7, all the parameters remain to a minimum level and survival starts to drop drastically. Results suggest a clear reproductive strategy during the first 4 days leading to a maintenance of egg volume accompained by a significant decrease on the individual dry weight. The applicability of results to larval rearing is also discussed
