Abstract

El Laboratorio Xeolóxico de Laxe, fundado por el geoquímico Isidro Parga Pondal en los años 40 del siglo XX, fue un centro relevante para el estudio de la geología gallega, reuniendo a investigadores nacionales y extranjeros. Su antecedente se encuentra en el Laboratorio de Xeoquímica da Universidade e do Seminario de Estudos Galegos, creado también por Parga durante los años 20 en la Universidad de Santiago. En esa fecha comenzó su relación con el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España a través del ingeniero de minas Primitivo Hernández-Sampelayo quien, tras la Guerra Civil y la expulsión de Parga del ámbito universitario, promovió el establecimiento en Galicia de una sede territorial del IGME con Parga al frente. Esto no fue posible, pero sí se llegó a articular la colaboración de Parga con el plan cartográfico a través de la realización de hojas a escala 1:50.000 de Galicia y de la edición de otros mapas. Los problemas detectados por Parga en el diseño del plan cartográfico general del IGME se tradujeron en unos desacuerdos difíciles de superar, que se agravaron ante la imposibilidad de participación del Laboratorio Xeolóxico de Laxe, por motivos administrativos, en el nuevo plan cartográfico a escala 1:50.000 del IGME, el plan MAGNA.
