El humedal artificial de Meco: su importancia durante el periodo primaveral

Abstract

La pérdida y deterioro de los humedales naturales han conducido a que las aves acuáticas usen en mayor medida humedales artificiales. En este estudio se describe la comunidad de aves acuáticas en un humedal artificial de Meco (este de la Comunidad de Madrid) durante la primavera de 2014 (abril-junio), a través de censos quincenales. Dicho humedal se asienta sobre una antigua zona de extracción de áridos. Se registraron un total de 1.083 ejemplares pertenecientes a 30 especies de aves acuáticas. La abundancia de ejemplares varió durante el periodo de estudio, y la mayor se alcanzó durante la primera quincena de abril, al coincidir con la migración prenupcial de varias especies. La riqueza de especies y la diversidad registrada en cada censo fueron similares. Las especies más abundantes fueron la cigüeñuela común Himantopus himantopus y la focha común Fulica atra. En el humedal de Meco se ubica la principal colonia de cría de varias especies escasas en la Comunidad de Madrid, por lo que debería incluirse en alguna figura de protección.
