Ciclo de vida del coccidio Aggregata valdessensis, parásito de Octopus tehuelchus en el Mar Argentino

Abstract

Los coccidios son protozoos del phylum Apicomplexa; la coccidiosis ha sido reportada como una de las patologías más prevalentes en cefalópodos. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar la infección de Aggregata valdessensis en el hospedador definitivo Octopus tehuelchus e identificar los crustáceos que actúan como hospedadores intermediarios. Los pulpos fueron colectados por medio de trampas en Puerto Madryn, Chubut; cada especimen se diseccionó y el tubo digestivo fue fijado en solución Davidson para su procesamiento histológico. Un total de 1360 individuos pertenecientes a 9 especies diferentes de crustáceos decápodos fueron colectados en diferentes sitios de la costa de la provincia de Chubut. De cada crustáceo se extrajeron porciones de intestino y se examinaron mediante lupa; para confirmar la presencia de coccidios se examinaron bajo microscopio óptico. Se fijaron los órganos de Cyrlograpsus altimanus (n=15) en solución Davidson pata su posterior procesamiento histológico; secciones pequeñas de los mismos órganos se fijaron en glutaraldehido para microscopio de transmisión y en etanol absoluto para análisis moleculares. Adicionalmente se realizaron infecciones experimentales con tres especies de crustáceos; C. altimanus (n=16), Betaeus lilianae (n=l8) y Carcinus maenas (n=l5) que fueron alimentados con tubo digestivo de pulpo infectado. En los pulpos se identificaron estadios de gametogonia y esporogonia en el intestino y ciego. Solo se observaron estadios de merogonia en C. altimanus con una prevalencia (P) del 51 %. Eu las infecciones experimentales se observaron estadios tempranos de merogonia con una P de 6% en C. altimanus y de 5% en B. lilianae. C. maenas no se infectó. El presente es el segundo ciclo de vida confirmado para la familia Aggregatidae a nivel mundial. Los resultados sugieren uua preferencia por hospedadores intermediarios particulares; por el contrario, parece haber una especificidad marcada en el hospedador definitivo
